What is PE and Sport Premium Funding?
The Primary PE and Sport Premium is government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality and breadth of PE, sport and physical activity opportunities for all pupils.
The funding is intended to support schools in developing sustainable improvements to their PE and sport provision. Schools are able to decide how best to use the funding to meet the needs of their pupils and school community.
The funding is ring-fenced and can only be used to support the provision of PE, sport and physical activity. Schools are accountable for how the funding is used and are required to publish information about their spending and its impact on their school website.
Physical Activity at Sacred Heart
At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, we believe that being active should be part of everyday life. We want our children to understand that movement is not just something that happens during PE lessons or through organised sport, but something that can be enjoyed and incorporated into every day.
We aim to develop positive attitudes towards movement from an early age, helping our pupils to discover activities they enjoy and develop the confidence, knowledge and skills to lead active lifestyles beyond their time at Sacred Heart.
Our PE and Sport Premium funding helps us to:
- Enhance the quality and range of PE and sporting opportunities available to our pupils.
- Provide opportunities for children to take part in competitive and non-competitive sporting activities.
- Develop the skills and confidence of staff through high-quality professional development and support.
- Increase participation in physical activity and extra-curricular sport.
- Provide opportunities for pupils to represent Sacred Heart in inter-school competitions and sporting events.
- Improve the quality and accessibility of PE equipment and resources.
- Encourage children to move more throughout the school day, including through active play, active learning and opportunities to be physically active outside of PE lessons.
- Help children understand that movement can be part of everyday life, whether through walking, playing, dancing, exercising, taking part in sport or simply choosing to be active.
- Develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and sport.
We recognise that being active looks different for everyone. Our aim is not simply to develop talented athletes, but to help every child find ways of moving that they enjoy and can continue throughout their lives.
Through high-quality PE lessons, extra-curricular clubs, competitions, active opportunities and a wide range of sporting experiences, we aim to inspire our pupils to move more, enjoy being active and develop healthy, active habits for life.
Our use of the PE and Sport Premium is reviewed regularly to ensure that the funding has a positive and lasting impact on our pupils and the quality of PE, sport and physical activity across our school.
