Our Curriculum at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School
At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Christ is at the centre of everything we do. Our curriculum is built around our mission and vision statements, promoting our core values: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready to Learn.
We recognise the unique needs of our community and design our curriculum to support the whole child. It fosters cultural awareness, promotes British values, and prepares pupils for life beyond school. Grounded in the National Curriculum, our approach ensures children flourish academically, close cultural gaps, and raise aspirations.
To enrich learning, we adopt a cross-curricular topic approach, supplemented with immersive topic weeks. A literacy- and language-rich curriculum is a priority, especially for children with limited vocabulary. Reading lies at the heart of learning, and quality texts are used to develop vocabulary, communication, and comprehension skills.
We emphasise oracy, aiming to develop confident communicators who respect others and express themselves clearly. Our curriculum also promotes behaviours for success, such as perseverance, co-operation, and independence. Enrichment activities, including trips and extracurricular opportunities, broaden children’s life experiences.
Finally, we prioritise physical, emotional, and mental well-being, equipping children with the knowledge to stay safe and healthy. Sport plays a key role, and pupils are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities that nurture their overall development.
